Camden Man Given Medal

Camden Man Given Medal — Camden Courier-Post, December 22, 1945, column 1 — Devising a unique system of requisition control for vitally needed supplies flown over the “Hump” to his advance China base won the Bronze Star medal for Sgt. Ronald H. Martin, 23, of 3317 Highland avenue.

Due to danger in making the Himalayas run, planes delivered only scant war materials to his forward supply dump. Battling units constantly demanded additional requisitions. The Camden sergeant, basing a plan on tonnage and future requirements of local units, provided supplies despite the severe shortage.

A veteran of action on the Burma Road, Martin saw combat at his supply depot, constant target of Japanese and Chinese Communist troops.

Son of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Martin, the Camden sergeant entered the Army in April, 1943, and has been overseas since February, 1945. His wife, Enid, lives at 8756 Stockton avenue, Pennsauken. A graduate of Woodrow Wilson High school, he was formerly employed by the Hinde & Dauch Paper Company, in Gloucester.
