Private First Class Robert M. Hendry was born in 1907. He was the youngest child of Alexander and Viola Hendry. By January of 1920, his father had passed away, and the family, which included older brother Alexander Jr. and sister Betty, lived at 526 Mechanic Street in Camden, New Jersey. Robert Hendry had worked as a painter for the Pennsylvania Railroad prior to his induction into the United States Army in April of 1943. He had made his home at 459 Mechanic Street in Camden, New Jersey.

Assigned to the 339th Infantry Regiment, 85th Infantry Division, Private Hendry was killed in action while serving in Italy on September 14, 1944. The death of Robert Hendry was reported in the evening edition of the Camden Courier-Post on September 25, 1944.

Robert M. Hendry was survived by his mother, of the Mechanic Street address, his aunt, Anna Hendry, of 511 Mickle Street in Camden, a brother, Alexander Hendry Jr., a sister, Betty, and a cousin, Private First Class Robert J. Hendry, then serving in the United States Marine Corps. His mother passed away at her home at 1436 Broadway on June 6, 1950.
