Corporal Robert J. Pierce attended high school in Collingswood, NJ. He was a member of the class of 1936, but did not graduate from Collingswood High School.

Robert J. Pierce was home on leave when he broke his neck in a diving accident at Oakwood Beach, near Salem, NJ. Taken to Salem Memorial Hospital, he died on August 6, 1944. He was survived by his wife, Marie Pierce, his parents Mr. and Mrs. Paul Pierce of 46 Oakland Avenue, Collingswood, NJ, two sisters, Betty and Mary, and a brother, Yeoman First Class Jack Pierce, then serving with the Navy. His funeral was held August 10, 1944. His name appears on the World War II War Memorial at Knight’s Park in Collingswood, NJ.
