Reverend Carl W. Weber
Reverend Carl W. Weber
REVEREND CARL WISMER WEBER was born and raised in Camden, New Jersey in August of 1922 to the Reverend Paul Weber and Martha Weber. Reverend Weber ministered at Epiphany Evangelical Lutheran Church at North 7th and Market Street from the 1920s through at least 1959. The family, which included older sister Katherine, lived at 902 North 7th Street in North Camden.
In March of 2008 an album that I believe his mother put together of photos of young Carl growing up in Camden was made available on eBay. I did not win the album, but fortunately, a number of the pages had been scanned and I downloaded them. They are a remarkable window into 1920s–1930s life in North Camden.
Carl W. Weber was a 1941 graduate of Camden High School. After graduating from Temple University he attended the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia and was ordained as a Lutheran minister in 1946.
Rev. Weber had a long and distinguished career, serving for 33 years in Philadelphia and 28 years in Burlington County. Reverend Weber passed away in June of 2012 at the age of 89.
Family Album
Carl. Three to Six Months.
Though the weather be stormy,
Or cloudy or fair,
At Sunday School and Church,
I'm sure to be there.
My family think
I'm quite a joy,
Because I've become
Such a nice, big boy.
Carl One Year of Age.
[card] First Birthday Greeting / The Cradle Roll [verse illegible]
This year I surely did enjoy
Since I came to be Mother's little boy.
A brand new job
I now undertake;
You see its to carve
My first birthday cake.
And now you see
I start to play
Since I am one
Year old today.
Carl Twelve to Eighteen Months.
[clipping, illegible]
A sad, glad story now must tell,
Sad part - I was sick; Glad part - now [?]
Well now just see
What [?] fun I have here!
My first vacation
Hurrah! Three cheers!
The boy in the coach,
Yes, that is I
I'm enjoying the sand,
And the sea and the sky.

My Birthday Wish
A fine, big man
Now comes to view,
Its our own little boy,
Only now he is two!
I had a cake,
'Twas fine and grand;
The only trouble,
'Twas made of sand.
Carl At Two - Three Years.
I've grown quite tall,
And a wee bit fat;
But did you notice
My sailor hat?

A Fellow's Mother
By Douglas Malloch
A fellow has a lot of friends
Of boys and girls to play with,
And aunts and uncles that he spends
An afternoon or day with,
I like the folks across the street,
And men with smiling faces,
And pleasant people that you meet
In church and other places,
A daddy's good, so big and tall,
A sister, or a brother,
But one friend is the best of all—
And that's a fellow's mother!
The other friends are nice to know,
To visit, and to chatter,
But, oh, you want your mother so
When something is the matter!
Perhaps a finger you may hit,
Because the hammer misses;
Your mother always fixes it
With tape and thread—and kisses.
A mother takes the hurt away,
She can, somehow or other;
One friend you need, need every day—
And that's a fellow's mother!
[…]hen I play marbles all alone

But then sometimes I fix up too,
And have a lot of fun;
'Twas at the Halloween Party,
I scared 'em - everyone.
Of course you know who this is here.
'Tis just my own sweet Daddy dear.
Carl Four - Five Years.
Now there's a lot of things they do:
You see I did some hand-work too.
Carl Five - Six Years.
When Katharine was twelve years old you see
She had a party - fine as could be.
"The Jolly Girls' Club" were honor guests.
Did we have fun?
Well I just guess!!
Katharine now had grown so tall
That she makes Mother
look real small.
Here's a secret - Just you see
Some day the biggest of all
I'll be.
Carl Five - Six Years.
Hearty Birthday Greetings to a Six-year-old!
He shall cover thee with His feathers and in His wings shalt thou trust.
Ps. 91:4.
Forward march, as Christian soldier,
Six years old - six times more dear:
'Neath the banner of your Savior
March along to life-long cheer!
You see I'm growing rather tall!

Pastor Weber is the son of The Rev. and Mrs. Paul Weber and is the 68th of a family line of ministers who have served congregations in America since 1678.
St. John's Lutheran Church
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
2009 [portrait]
The Rev. Dr. Carl W. Weber served as pastor of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church Mayfair, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for 32 years. During this time the congregation grew from 350 members to 3,200 adults members, the largest in the Southeast Pennsylvania Synod of the Lutheran Church in American.
Under Dr. Weber’s leadership, the congregation paid off the church debt of $175,000, constructed a $400.00 educational unit, installed a new $250,000 pipe organ, a $15,000 lighting system and a $3,000 mosaic-tile reredos. Dr. Weber served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Lutheran Children and Family Service; the Committee on American Mission; the Board of the Greater Philadelphia Council of Churches and the Lincoln High School Home and School Association of Philadelphia. He is past-president of the Philadelphia Lutheran and interdenominational ministerial association and the Home and School association. He is a frequent guest speaker for churches, service groups, television and radio.
He began singing songs in his sermons while in seminary and has continued to this day. These song-sermons have been widely acclaimed. Dr. Weber feels the diversification of media is helpful in proclaiming Christ as the Saviour.
He is listed in “Who’s Who in the East”. In 1973, Muhlenberg College gave him the Doctor of Divinity Degree in recognition of his outstanding ministry.
He is a graduated of Camden High School, Temple University and the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, receiving the Master of Divinity Degree. He was ordained by the Lutheran Ministerium of Pennsylvania in 1946. He served St. John’s Lutheran Church, Catawissa, Pennsylvania for three and one-half years, then accepted the call to St. John’s Mayfair, Philadelphia, in 1949. He now serves as pastor-Emeritus.
