Second Lieutenant Paul M. Mailley was the son of Paul and Ellen Mailley. He was born in New Jersey. At the time of the April 1930 Federal Census he was 7 years old, and the family lived at 612 Powell Street in Gloucester City. His father was then working as a dyer, and his mother as a bank secretary. Prior to entering the Army, he had lived with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George C. James, of 428 Middlesex Avenue, Gloucester City.

Paul Mailley was killed on March 4, 1944, when the reconnaissance plane he was piloting was downed over France. He was initially listed as missing in action. His body was never recovered, and he was later declared to have been killed in action.

Second Lieutenant Mailley was survived by his mother, Mrs. Ellen Van Huysen of Schenectady, New York, and his grandparents. His death was reported in the September 25, 1944 edition of the Camden Courier-Post. He is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing at Florence American Cemetery, Florence, Italy.
