Sergeant Otto Dreher was born in Philadelphia on June 24, 1890. He lived in Camden virtually all of his life. He was the son of Otto and Wilhelmina “Minnie” Draper. The family was living at 530 Elm Street by 1910. The elder Draper was working as a polisher at the Victor Talking Machine Company. Otto Draper’s father passed away sometime after the 1910 Census. Mrs. Draper remarried George Dangel, a baker by trade, who had been practicing that profession as far back as 1890, first in Philadelphia, and later in Camden. Otto Dreher and his brothers William G. and Henry R. Dreher all followed him into that profession. There were also two younger step-daughters, Clara and Minnie Dreher. Otto Dreher had married, and in 1912 a daughter, Emily E. Dreher, was born. In June of 1917 he was living at 331 North Main Street in Waterbury CT, working for the Kelly Company of Waterbury as a baker.

Otto Dreher registered for the draft at Waterbury CT on June 5, 1917. He was sent to France, apparently along with his brother William, as part of Bakery Company No. 327, in January of 1918. He was stricken with pneumonia, and died in the arms of his brother William, in France on October 1, 1918.

Otto Dreher was survived by his mother, step-father, brothers, sisters, and daughter, all who were living at 530 Elm Street, Camden NJ in 1920. The family for the most part was still living on Elm Street as late as January, 1932.
