Biography

Oscar R. Letts Jr. was born June 10, 1917 in New Jersey, the son of Oscar R. Letts and Marie E. Kraus Letts. In January of 1920, the family lived at 45½ Kings Highway East in Haddonfield, New Jersey. Oscar Sr. worked as a clerk for the Pennsylvania Railroad. By the 1930 census, a brother, Edwin H. Letts, had been born, and the family lived with maternal grandfather Edward H. Kraus on Evesham Avenue in Voorhees Township, near the corner of Ebert Avenue.

Oscar R. Letts Jr. was a member of the Collingswood High School Class of 1937, but did not graduate. He was listed on the Collingswood High School World War II Honor Roll as a member of the United States Navy. This listing may be in error, as Social Security records suggest he may have survived the war.
