Sergeant Malcolm Whitman Gill was born in 1909 in Pennsylvania to Arthur Benjamin Gill and his wife Margaret. His father was a prominent local architect, who moved both his business and his family to Camden NJ, first to 217 Pearl Street, then purchasing a house at 310 State Street in North Camden around 1924, having had an office at 519 Market Street for several years already. Malcolm Gill, known to friends as “Mac,” graduated from Camden High School in 1926 where he was active in after school activities. He was well known as a typewriter repairman in high school.

After graduating high school, Malcolm Gill worked as a draftsman in his father’s business in Camden. He married Mae Edginton, and the couple lived at 210 State Street, Camden NJ. He was inducted into the Army in July of 1943, and served in a medical detachment in Atlantic City NJ.
Malcolm Gill died June 13, 1944 of complications from a kidney operation he had undergone three weeks previously. A blood transfusion had been attempted on the 12th, but he failed to rally.
He was survived by his parents, brother Robert, and his wife, Mrs. Mae Edginton Gill.

Atlantic City, June 14 — Sgt. Malcolm Gill, 33, of 310 State street, Camden, died last night in the England General hospital here.
Sergeant Gill, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur B. Gill, of Camden, entered the Army in July, 1942, and was assigned to the hospital at that time with a medical detachment. Three weeks ago he underwent a kidney operation and failed to rally after a blood transfusion three days ago.
The soldier’s father is an architect and before entering the Army, Sergeant Gill worked as a draftsman for him.
Besides his parents he is survived by his widow, Mrs. Dorothy E. Gill, formerly of Camden, with whom he lived at 107 South New Jersey avenue since their marriage three years ago; and a brother, Robert, of Audubon. Mrs. Gill is employed as a clerk in the sergeant major’s office at the hospital.

Services for Sgt. Malcolm Gill, 33, will be held today at 3 p.m. in the funeral home of B. C. Schroeder & Sons, 715 Cooper street. He died in England General hospital, Atlantic City, Tuesday night after an operation three weeks ago.
Sergeant Gill, who resided at 310 State street, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Gill and entered the Army in July, 1942. His father is a Camden architect and prior to going into the service, Sergeant Gill worked for him as a draftsman.
