Corporal Ludwig Hanel was born in New York in 1920. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hanel of Blackwood, NJ, he had lived on Browning Road in Bellmawr, NJ before being inducted into the United States Army at Camden, NJ on August 7, 1942. Qualifying for flight duty, he was sent overseas in December 1943. Corporal Hanel was killed when his plane crashed in the Philippine Islands in January of 1945.
