Introduction
Lieutenant Junior Grade Linwood Victor Weeks Jr. was born in January of 1926, the second son of Linwood and Marion Weeks of Berlin, NJ. By 1930 the family was living in a rented house at the corner of East Taunton and Jefferson Avenues in Berlin, NJ, and Linwood Weeks Sr. was working as a bookkeeper for a coal company.
Linwood Victor Weeks, Jr. enlisted in U.S. Naval Aviation in June of 1942. He trained at Navy Pre-flight School, Chapel Hill, NC, and served at Naval Air Stations at Glenview, IL; Corpus Christi, TX; Atlanta, GA; Jacksonville, FL; Cecil Field, FL; Kingsville, TX; and Vero Beach, FL. He was made Instrument Flight Instructor after being commissioned as an Ensign in the Naval Reserve, and instructed Naval Aviators in instrument flying for two and one half years. While returning to Vero Beach, FL, from St. Louis, MO, on a routine flight, his plane crashed near Americus, GA, at 4:00 A.M. on April 15, 1946, and he was killed along with his co-pilot. He was interred in Berlin Cemetery, Berlin, NJ, on April 20, 1946. He was eligible for the American Theater and Victory medals.
