Private Leone Sebastiano was born in Bisano, near Catania on the Italian island of Sicily on October 10, 1889. He had served in the Italian army prior to emigrating to America. Leone Sebastiano arrived in America on November 26, 1910 aboard the White Star line steamship Romanic, having sailed from Naples, Italy on November 12.

Leone Sebastiano does not appear in the 1914 Camden City Directory, but came to Camden not long after it was compiled. When he registered for the draft on June 5, 1917 Leone Sebastiano was working as an “oil rubber” at the Victor Talking Machine Company factory in Camden. He made his home at 218 Stevens Street. He was inducted into the United States Army at Camden on October 8, 1917. Initially assigned to Company K, 311th Infantry Regiment, he was transferred to Company H, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division on December 13, 1917. Private Sebastiano went overseas with his unit on April 2, 1918.

Private Sebastiano was killed in action during the Second Battle of the Marne. He was survived by his mother, who was still living in Sicily.
