The Official Department of War Casualty 1946 Honor Roll records him as Joseph J. Sampolske.
Introduction
Staff Sergeant Joseph J. Sampolski was born on June 22, 1921, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Sampolski of 135 Forest Avenue in Runnemede, N.J. He was single and had a grammar school education when he was inducted into the Army at Camden, N.J. on July 7, 1942. The Army recorded (and still records) his name as “Sampolske.”
When Staff Sergeant Sampolski was killed in action on October 7, 1944 during the Battle for Hill 587 near Sassoleone, Italy, the Camden Courier-Post reported that he was survived by his wife Marie Sampolski, of 300 Essex Street in Gloucester City, N.J. Besides his wife and parents, he left two brothers, Louis and Edward, who was then serving in the United States Navy, and four sisters.

S/SGT. JOSEPH SAMPOLSKI — Requiem high Mass for S/Sgt. Joseph J. Sampolski, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Sampolski, of Harding avenue, Runnemede, will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a. m. in St. Theresa's R. C. Church, Runnemede. Relatives and friends will meet at 9.30 a. m. in the funeral home of Edward C. Gardner, 122 Black Horse pike, Runnemede, where friends may call tomorrow night. Burial will be in U. S. National cemetery, Beverly, with military rites by post 3324, VFW, and Runnemede post, 250, American Legion.
Sergeant Sampolski, a native of Runnemede, was killed in action in Italy on Oct. 7, 1944. He was 28. Surviving besides his parents are two brothers, Louis, Camden, and Edward, Runnemede, and four sisters, Mrs. Herbert Markowski, Maple Shade; Mrs. Edward Clark, Bronx, N. Y.; Mrs. John Sidebottom, and Mrs. David Stevens, both Runnemede.
