Private Joseph J. Bollinger Jr. was born in New Jersey in 1924, to Joseph and Cressa Bollinger. His parents had both emigrated from Hungary and met and wed in America around 1916. In 1930, the elder Bollinger worked as a silk dye helper in the dye industry. Joseph Bollinger Jr. was their fourth child, coming after sisters Mary and Cressa, and brother John. The family lived at 94 Geneva Avenue in Westmont, NJ. Joseph Bollinger had worked for the Coca Cola Bottling Company before the Army called for him early in 1943.

Private Joseph J. Bollinger was killed in action during the battle for Cherbourg on June 25, 1944. He was survived by his parents, of the Westmont address.

Joseph J. Bollinger Jr. is memorialized on the War Memorial on Haddon Avenue in Westmont (Haddon Township), NJ.
