Biography

Private Joseph Harrison of 340 Mercer Street, Gloucester City, New Jersey, was the son of Mrs. Catherine Harrison. He attended high school in Mt. Holly, New Jersey, and served with the New Jersey National Guard before being called to active duty. He was awarded the Soldier’s Medal for heroism after driving a truck away from a burning ammunition dump, saving the lives of fellow soldiers. His brother Francis Harrison was also serving in the Army at the time of his death.
Private Harrison died on January 14, 1945. He is buried at Beverly National Cemetery, Beverly, New Jersey.
