Second Lieutenant John Kinney Wells was the first child born on August 9, 1921 to John D. and Marguerite Wells in Collingswood, NJ. The Wells family lived at different times at 131 Marne Avenue (1930) and 401 Westmont Avenue (1940s) in Haddonfield, NJ. He was a graduate of Haddonfield Memorial High School and a member of Haddonfield Methodist Church. Besides John, there was a younger brother, Malcolm, and sister, Mary Elizabeth.
John Kinney Wells served during World War II as an enlisted man. He qualified for flight duty and was a tail-gunner on a B-29 Superfortress. He re-enlisted after the war and was commissioned an officer. He married a high-school classmate, Doris, who also served during World War II as a member of the Women’s Army Corps.
John Kinney Wells was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX when he was killed in an automobile accident on June 19, 1950. His body was returned to New Jersey and he was buried at Beverly National Cemetery in Beverly, NJ on June 26, 1950.

Services for Lt. John Kinney Wells, 28, a member of the air force, will be held Monday at 11 a. m. in the Holl funeral home, 15 West End avenue, Haddonfield. The Rev. Lynn H. Corson, pastor of the Haddonfield Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the National cemetery, Beverly. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday night.
Lieutenant Wells was killed Monday night at the army air base, San Antonio, Texas, when the jeep in which he was riding was in collision with another car.
Born in Collingswood, he was a graduate of Haddonfield Memorial High school, as was his wife, Doris. Both he and his wife served in War II. He was a tail gunner on a B-29 in the Pacific theater and she was a WAC. After the war he reenlisted in the army.
Also surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John D. Wells, of 401 Westmont avenue, Haddonfield; a brother, Malcolm B., Haddonfield, and a sister, Mary Elizabeth, at home.
