Introduction
Private First Class John James Davis was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Davis. His early years were spent in Audubon, NJ, where he was a member of the Audubon High School swimming team. Before his senior year, his family moved to 59A Berlin Road in Clementon, NJ. He graduated from Lower Camden County Regional High School in 1941. He served as the lifeguard at Pine Lake for three years.
John James Davis entered the United States Marine Corps in 1943. He was killed in action on Okinawa on June 6, 1945. He was survived by his parents and a brother, Sergeant Harry Davis USMC, then stationed in Phoenix, AZ. His mother was at one time secretary of the United Mothers Club of Clementon and Vicinity, and was also active in the Fort Dix Camp and Hospital Council. Private First Class Davis’s death was reported in the July 25, 1945, edition of the Camden Courier-Post.
