Private First Class John J. Hegener Jr. of 830 Bergen Street, Gloucester City, New Jersey, was killed in action on October 11, 1944. He had entered the Army in July of 1943 and went overseas in January of 1944. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Gloucester City and had worked as a lifeguard at Farnham Park, Gloucester Park, and Mountwell Park.
