Introduction
Sergeant John J. D’Agostino was born on March 20, 1914, to Stefano and Julia D’Agostino, the oldest of their five children, before Helen, Domenic, Edward, and Robert. In 1930 the family lived at 607 South 3rd Street in Camden, NJ. He later lived in Delaware Township, NJ (now Cherry Hill). After working for RCA in Camden, he was inducted into the United States Army shortly after the draft was re-instituted in July of 1940.
After qualifying for flight duty, John D’Agostino trained as a radio operator and was assigned to the 823rd Bomber Squadron, 38th Bomb Group, serving in New Guinea. After flying 11 missions, Sergeant D’Agostino died of causes not relating to combat on December 13, 1944. His body was returned home aboard the USAT George W.G. Boyce in 1948. He was buried at Calvary Cemetery in Cherry Hill, where he rests next to his parents, who both passed away in the early 1970s.

SGT. JOHN D’AGOSTINO BURIAL WEDNESDAY
Solemn requiem high Mass for Sgt. John D’Agostino, 30, will be celebrated Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Relatives and friends will meet at 9 a.m. in the residence, 609 South Third street, where friends may call tomorrow night. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery.
Sergeant D’Agostino died in New Guinea Dec. 13, 1944. He had been in the army three and one-half years. He was a radio operator in the 38th Bomber Group, 823d Bomber Squadron, and had flown 11 missions. He was a former RCA employe.
Surviving are his parents, Steve and Julia D’Agostino; a sister, Mrs. Helen D’Giacamo; and three brothers, Dominick, Robert and Edward, who was recently discharged from the navy after serving six years. The funeral will be under direction of Antonio Mecca.
