Biography

Sergeant John Gartland Elliott, 25, of 212 Rosalind Avenue, Gloucester City, New Jersey, was the son of Edmund G. and Olivia Elliott. He enlisted in the Army in 1939 and was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia, and Fort Jay, Governors Island, New York.

On April 19, 1945, Sergeant Elliott was seriously injured in an accident in Columbus, Georgia. He died two days later, on April 21, 1945, at the hospital in Lawson, Georgia. He was brought home and buried at New St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bellmawr, New Jersey.
