Seaman First Class John E. Gaylord was born in Camden, NJ on December 30, 1930 to John and Mary E. Gaylord. He grew up in North Camden, where his family lived at 655 Vine Street. After attending Camden High School he enlisted in the United States Navy in March of 1947. Seaman First Class Gaylord died in the Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, VA on January 5, 1950. He was brought home and buried at Locustwood Memorial Park in Delaware Township (present-day Cherry Hill), NJ. His mother was at that time living at 86 Erie Street in North Camden.

John E. Gaylord, 19, of 655 Vine street, a seaman, first class, in the navy, died in the Portsmouth, Va., Naval hospital Thursday. Born in Camden, he attended Camden High school and enlisted in the navy in March, 1947.
Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Gaylord, of the Camden address; a sister, Mrs. Carrie E. Hale, and a grandmother, Mrs. Elizabeth Hassman, both of Camden.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a. m. in the Murray funeral home, 408 Cooper street, where friends may call Sunday night. Burial will be in Locustwood Memorial park.
