Private Jan Citko was born in Suwalki in what was then Russia and is now Poland in May of 1889. He was living and working in Wilmington, Delaware in June of 1917 when he registered for the draft. He was inducted into the United States Army at Camp Meade, Maryland on October 13, 1917. He was living at 1917 Fillmore Street in Camden when he reported for active duty.

Assigned to Company F, 315th Infantry Regiment, Private Citko went overseas in July of 1918. He was killed in action on September 30, 1918. His sister Bronislaw Borodrink of 1917 Fillmore Street, Camden was notified of his death.
