Introduction
James V. McFadden was born in Summit Hill, Pennsylvania on May 31, 1900, to John V. and Annie McFadden. After working as an inspector in a coal mine, where he was enumerated during the January 1920 Federal Census, James McFadden began practicing his trade as a pharmacist in Camden in 1921. He had married his wife Catherine in 1920. By April of 1930 the McFadden family had moved to Haddonfield, New Jersey, where they owned a home at 256 Hawthorne Avenue. He later moved to 702 Linden Street in Camden, New Jersey.
James McFadden operated his own business, Mac’s Pharmacy, at Broadway and Benson for several years. He began working as the pharmacist at the Walt Whitman Hotel Pharmacy in 1942, a position which held until his passing, from a heart attack, at home, on January 22, 1950.

James V. “Mac” McFadden, 49, widely known pharmacist and manager of the Hotel Walt Whitman pharmacy, died in his home, 702 Linden street, Sunday of a heart attack.
Born in Summit Hill, Pa., May 27, 1900, he had been a pharmacist in Camden for 28 years. At one time he operated his own business, known as “Mac’s” Pharmacy, at Broadway and Benson street.
He was a member of the Camden Kiwanis club and Camden Council, KC. He had been manager of the hotel pharmacy for seven years.
Surviving are his widow, Catherine G.; eight sons, James, Robert, John, Joseph, Donald, Francis and Anthony, all of Camden, and Edward, San Jose, Calif.; two daughters, Anna Marie, Camden, and Mrs. Regina Hess, Philadelphia; three brothers, John, Camden, and Michael and Charles, both of Summit Hill; four sisters, Mrs. Loretta M. Klindon, Mrs. Catherine York, Mrs. Anna Munday and Miss Agnes McFadden, all of Summit Hill, and one grandchild.
High Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Relatives and friends will meet at 9 a.m. in the funeral home of Robert J. Blake, Haddon avenue and Division street, where friends may call Wednesday night. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery.

The funeral of James V. “Mac” McFadden, 49, widely known druggist, was held today. Requiem High Mass was celebrated in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Burial was in Calvary cemetery. Mr. McFadden died Sunday in his home, 702 Linden street, of a heart attack.
More than 400 persons called at the funeral home of Robert J. Blake, Haddon avenue and Division street, Wednesday night, to pay respects. There were many floral tributes.
