James M. Jordan

Private First Class James M. Jordan was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Jordan, of 318 Federal Street, Camden NJ. His father operated a cafe at that address, and James Jordan was living with his parents at that address when he was inducted into the Army late in the war.

James Jordan died of wounds received in action at the age of 26 on December 20, 1944, while serving in the United States Army. He was survived by his parents and two brothers, Francis and John, who were serving in the Marines and Army Air Force at the time of his death.

Private First Class James M. Jordan’s death was reported in the Camden Courier-Post on January 10, 1945. A mass was celebrated for him at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Camden NJ the following day. The Jordan family had moved to Wildwood, New Jersey by the time the 1947 Directory was published. He was brought back to the United States and buried at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Cheltenham, Pennsylvania. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
