Introduction
Howard William Haines lived most of his life on Broadway in the Laurel Springs section of Clementon Township, New Jersey, which eventually became the Borough of Laurel Springs. Born in New Jersey around 1898 to a house painter, Daniel C. Haines, and his wife, the former Mary L. Pinkerton, Howard Haines enlisted in the United States Navy on June 5, 1918 in Philadelphia. He was taken ill and died of pneumonia brought in by the flu on September 24, 1918 at Great Lakes Naval Training Center Hospital in Illinois.
Howard Haines was survived by his parents, Daniel C. and Mary L. Haines, of Broadway in Laurel Springs, New Jersey, and a sister, Dorothy M. Haines.
