Herbert Franklin White

Lance Corporal Herbert Franklin White was born on February 14, 1947. His home of record was Camden, NJ. He served in the United States Marine Corps and attained the rank of Lance Corporal.

Herbert F. White was the husband of Beatrice E. White and the father of Anthony E. White of Camden. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on August 31, 1966 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He arrived in Vietnam on November 6, 1967 where he was assigned for duty with Company I, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division.

During the month of March 1968, the 3rd Battalion conducted combat operations in Thua Thien Province and on March 26 began to participate in Operation Houston. On the first day of the operation, while on a patrol an enemy mine was tripped. The resulting explosion and its shrapnel killed Lance Corporal White. He was survived by a wife and son.

Herbert Franklin White was awarded the Purple Heart. He is honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on Panel 46E, Line 43.

He is buried at New Camden Cemetery, Camden, NJ.
