Introduction
Sergeant Harry W. Werneth, 20, of Glendora NJ, was a ball turret gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress with the 407th Bomber Squadron, 92nd Bomber Group. A graduate of Northeast High School in Philadelphia PA, where he was on the swim team, Werneth had been overseas for only a month before he was lost. He was killed in action on April 30, 1944, on his seventh mission over occupied Europe.
His father, Harry C. Werneth, was presented with his Air Medal and Purple Heart at the Ferrying Command Air Base at New Castle DE. He was survived by his parents and a step-brother, Lt. Raymond Buseman. He is memorialized on the Glendora and Gloucester Township, NJ, World War II memorials.
