Biography
Harry Holmes Bradway was a Fireman/Watertender aboard the SS M.F. Elliott. His sister, Mary Guenther, lived at 709 Lawrence Street in Camden, New Jersey.
On June 3, 1942, the SS M.F. Elliott was torpedoed approximately 150 miles northwest of Trinidad by the German submarine U-502, commanded by Oberleutnant Jürgen von Rosenstiel. Ten survivors were rescued by the USS Tarbell (DD-142).
U-502 was itself sunk on July 5, 1942 by a RAF Wellington bomber of 172 Squadron.
A service flag was unveiled in memory of Harry Holmes Bradway on October 26, 1942 at 9th and Linden Streets in Camden.
