Private First Class Harry E. Beach was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry A. Beach. He had lived on Kirkwood-Gibbsboro Road in Voorhees Township, NJ, and worked with the Camden County Highway Department. He was inducted into the Army in May 1942 and was assigned to the 115th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division.

Harry Beach survived the landing at Omaha Beach on D-Day, June 6, 1944. He was killed in action in the hedgerows of Normandy on July 11, 1944, at the age of 31. He was survived by his parents, a brother, Henry Jr., and a sister, Alice. His death was reported in the August 10, 1944 edition of the Camden Courier-Post.

Harry Beach’s brother Henry served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a charter member of the American Legion Post 371 in Gibbsboro, NJ. He was a founder of the Voorhees Township Police Department, where he served for 22 years and became the department’s first retiree. He was a standing member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 9 and a member of the Law Enforcement Bowling League well into his retirement. Henry A. Beach Jr. passed away on April 22, 2008.
