Introduction
Harry D. Strunk.
Private First Class Harry D. Strunk was born on April 11, 1925, to Mr. and Mrs. Harry G. Strunk. His father worked for the Wickes Engineering and Construction Company. He was a junior at Merchantville (NJ) High School when he enlisted in the Marines in May of 1943, going overseas in January of 1944. He was also a member of Niagara Fire Company in Merchantville. Private First Class Harry Strunk died of wounds received in combat during the battle for Saipan on July 5, 1944, at the age of 19. After the war, he was brought home and interred at Locustwood Cemetery in what was then Delaware Township, NJ (now Cherry Hill). He was survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry G. Strunk, of 10 Orchard Avenue, Merchantville, and a sister, Jeanne.

PFC. HARRY D. STRUNK RITES SATURDAY
Military rites for Pfc. Harry D. Strunk, marine corps, will be held at services Saturday at 2 p.m. in a funeral home at 33 West Maple avenue, Merchantville, and Locustwood Memorial park where burial will be made. Private Strunk was 19 when killed in the Pacific theatre July 5, 1944. He was a junior in Merchantville High school when he enlisted. He also was a member of Niagara Fire Co., Merchantville. The military services will be by Gross-Hollingshed post, 1270, VFW.
Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry G. Strunk, and a sister, Jeanne, all of 10 Orchard avenue, Merchantville.
