Introduction
GLENN H. MOORE was born on June 26, 1945. He was appointed to the Camden Fire Department on November 8, 1968.
After Camden lifted its residency requirements for police and fire personnel, Glenn H. Moore moved to the Hilltop section of Gloucester Township. He served with Engine Company 11 in Cramer Hill during the 1990s. Glenn H. Moore retired from the Fire Department on January 1, 2000. Glenn H. Moore passed away on October 24, 2011.
18 Qualify As Camden Firemen

TRENTON—The Civil Service division announced yesterday that 14 Camden residents have passed examinations for employment in the city fire department. Four non-residents also passed the firemen’s tests, and three non-residents passed examinations for the city police force.
City residents receiving passing grades for fireman were: Daniel J. Galasso, 3023 Atlanta Road; George S. Szychulski, 1412 Mt. Ephraim Ave.; Samuel Battle Jr., 1121 Kaighns Ave.; Charles W. Arzillo Sr., 431 Winslow St.; Ronald Angemi, 1306 Merrimac Road, and Sage C. Russell 3rd, 453 Beideman Ave. Also, Robert C. Welch, 1475 Ormond Ave.; Jerome J. Watson, 935 Beideman Ave.; Robert G. and Ronald J. Boyle, 1127 N. 33rd St.; George R. Abbey 3rd, 1 Oak Walk Crest; Michael J. Shue, 1231 N. 32nd St.; Richard C. Arensberg, 3091 Pleasant St., and Thomas J. Boody, 1070 S. Merrimac Road.
Of 43 admitted for the firemen’s test, 18 failed and 11 failed to appear.
Non-Camden residents receiving passing grades were William R. Swan, 32 Marne Gardens, Moorestown; Glenn H. Moore, 142 Chestnut St., Woodlynne; William H. Huelas, 320 F. Bettlewood Ave., Oaklyn, and Marvin W. Bendy, 250 S. 3rd St., Gloucester.
Non-residents receiving passing grades for the city police department were Ronald C. Rovegno, 14 S. Arlington Ave., Berlin; William R. Swan, 32 Marne Gardens, Moorestown, and Henry F. Stypinski, 112 Delaware Ave., Riverside.
Police Chief Harold Melleby said yesterday that all men who passed the test would be appointed probationary patrolmen pending investigations of their background. There are now 246 men on the force, Melleby said. Firemen also will be investigated to fill existing vacancies and supplement the additional staff needed because of a reduction in the work week to 44 hours.
Police and firemen receive starting salaries of $7,145 a year, $8,325 the second year.
25 Firemen Finish Training

In a move aimed at staffing the Camden Fire Department for a new 42-hour work week, 25 probationary firemen will be graduated from the city fire academy Monday and 10 fire officers will be given promotions Tuesday.
Heading the list of fire officer promotions will be the selection of Battalion Chief Anthony C. Saponare, 51, of 117 S. 27th Street, Camden, as deputy fire chief. The new deputy chief is a 26-year veteran on the city fire force.
Two fire captains to be promoted to battalion chief are Matthew J. Davies, Jr., 36, of 2819 Carman Street, Camden, and James H. Stewart, 54, of 317 Garden Avenue, Camden.
Seven firemen to be named captains include William D. Hillman, 29, of 11 Crestfair Apartments, Camden; Joseph H. Arensberg, 32, of 1041 N. 32nd Street, Camden; Robert E. Briggs, 48, of 2861 Congress Road, Camden; and John Brzozowski, 28, 371 N. 34th Street, Camden.
Also to be named captains are Edmund F. Gorczynski, 36, of 272 N. 33rd Street, Camden; Anthony T. Orme, 44, 3317 River Road, Camden; and William B. Young, 29, of 1126 N. 33rd Street, Camden.
The new firemen include Richard E. Johnson, Thomas H. Eckel, Ronald C. Crowder, John A. DeLuca, Peter P. Carbone, Robert P. Hand, Robert M. Lapp, Jerome A. Kee, Thomas V. Kane, Charles E. Mayo, James C. Peterson and George S. Szychulski, all of Camden.
Other slated fire school graduates are Ronald Angemi, Robert C. Welch, Robert G. Boyle, Glenn H. Moore, Marvin W. Bendy, Thomas J. DiBiaso, Arthur J. Gibson, Daniel J. Galasso, Samuel Battle Jr., Ronald J. Boyle, Jerome J. Watson, George R. Abbey, 3rd., and William H. Huelas, all of Camden.
The appointments of all 35 men become effective Jan. 1, 1969.
Twelve Sworn In As City Firemen

Twelve men were sworn in today to implement the second phase of a 42-hour work week for Camden city firemen.
The new firemen, three of them following their fathers into public service, were administered the oath by Fire Chief Edward V. Michalak.
The men will begin basic training at the city's fire academy immediately, Michalak said, in order to begin their duties in January.
They are part of a total complement of 24 who will be used to allow some of the department's firemen to begin a 42-hour work week.
So far one-third of the department have been working the new schedule, approved by voters last November.
An additional 12 men are expected to be appointed within the next few weeks. The entire department is scheduled to work 42 hours by January, 1970, when the third phase of the plan goes into operation.
Three of the men appointed today represent second generations to work for the city or county. They are: Jerome J. Watson, 21, of 935 Beideman Ave., whose father, Donald, is a former city police chief; Daniel J. Galasso, 26, of 3023 Atlanta Road, whose father, Charles, is warden of the Camden County jail; and William H Huelas, 22, of 320 E. Bettlewood Ave., Oaklyn, whose father, John, is a captain in the city fire department.
In addition, twins Ronald J. and Robert G. Boyle, 22, of 1127 N. 33rd St. were included in the group.
Others appointed were: George S. Szychulski, 22, of 1412 Mt. Ephraim Ave.; Glenn H. Moore, 23, of 142 Chestnut Ave., Woodlynne; Marvin W. Bendy, 28, of 250 S. 3rd St., Gloucester; Samuel Battle Jr., 21 of 1121 Kaighns Ave.; Ronald Angemi, 22, of 1306 Merrimac Road; Robert C. Welch, 28, of 1475 Ormond Ave.; and George R. Abbey, 25, of 1 Oak Walk.

GLENN H. MOORE (1945–2011)
Glenn H. Moore on October 24, 2011 of Hilltop, NJ. Age 66. Beloved husband of Regina A. (Nee Keiser). Devoted father of Nadine Lyons (Daniel), Richard Albee (Stacie) and Frank Albee (Marcella). Dear grandfather of Haley, Brooke, Ricky & Dorian. Loving brother-in-law of Tommy Keiser (Trish), Frank Keiser, Eileen Warner and Carol Feriozzi (Anthony).
Mr. Moore worked as a Fireman for the City of Camden for 32 years. He enjoyed discussing politics and spending time at the beach.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the viewing 9am to 11am Saturday morning at GARDNER FUNERAL HOME, RUNNEMEDE. Funeral service 11am Saturday at the funeral home. Interment Calvary Cemetery, Cherry Hill.
