First Sergeant Gilbert F. Christy Sr. was born in New Jersey in 1905. He was the son of Harry and Irene Christy Sr.

When the census was taken in 1910, the Christy family resided at 20 Morse Street. The family lived at 2110 Howell Street when the Census was taken in January of 1920. Besides Gilbert, the family included older brother Harry Jr. and younger siblings Irene, Benjamin, and Julius. The elder Christy was then a Captain of guards at one of the Camden shipyards.

Gilbert Christy was a member of the New Jersey National Guard; he was mobilized in June of 1940 and went on active duty on September 16. He died in Denver, Colorado, at the age of 38 while serving in the United States Army during World War II. He was survived by his parents, his wife, the former Kathryn Winkles, and infant son Gilbert F. Christy Jr., of 2836 Pleasant Street, Camden, NJ.
