George M. Harris
Staff Sergeant George M. Harris was the son of Guy S. and Helen J. Harris. He was born on August 19, 1900. His father, a native Iowan, worked as a mate on merchant steamships. His mother was born in New Jersey. At the time of the 1930 census, the Harris family lived at 2938 Yorkship Square in Camden NJ. George Harris, 30 at the time, had already moved out on his own. He is known to have lived in Chattanooga TN in the late 1930s.
Sergeant Harris died on September 23, 1942 at the age of 42 at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital in Philadelphia PA after a brief illness.
Sergeant Harris had been an ROTC instructor at a Chattanooga TN high school for several years prior to his illness. He was survived by his mother, Mrs. Guy S. Harris, of 902 North 4th Street in Camden NJ, sisters Helen and Madge, a brother, Francis, and another brother.
George Harris was buried at Arlington Cemetery in Pennsauken NJ on September 26, 1942.

SGT. GEORGE HARRIS, OF CAMDEN, DIES
Staff Sergt. George M. Harris, 42, of 902 North Fourth street died yesterday at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital following a brief illness.
Sergt. Harris had been an ROTC instructor in a Chattanooga, Tenn. high school for several years prior to his illness. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Guy S. Harris, two brothers and two sisters. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from a funeral home at 423 Cooper street. Burial will be private in Arlington cemetery.
