Private George L. Walton Jr. was born in Camden NJ around 1916 to T. Clark Walton and his wife, the former Elmira Price. At the time of the April 1930 census George and younger brother Bowman were living with Robert and Elizabeth Brandt, German immigrants who operated a farm in Stowe Creek Township, Cumberland County NJ. He later relocated to Gibbsboro NJ.

George L. Walton Jr. enlisted in the United States Army in September of 1940. He was en route to Puerto Rico with his unit when stricken with appendicitis. Although transported to the base hospital at Fort Jay, New York, Private Walton died of appendicitis on June 28, 1941. He was brought back to New Jersey and buried at Beverly National Cemetery on July 1, 1941.

George Walton had two brothers who also served America during World War II. His brother Thomas C. Walton entered the Army in April of 1941. Volunteering for duty with an airborne unit, he was reported to be the 6th American soldier to touch down in France on D-Day. His brother Bowman D. Walton served with the United States Navy in England.

The George L. Walton American Legion Post 371 in Gibbsboro NJ is named in his honor.
