Gaetano P. “Thomas” Caprioni
Private First Class Gaetano P. “Thomas” Caprioni was born in New Jersey on November 29, 1921, to Divinangelo “David” Caprioni and his wife, the former Mary DiLorenzo. He was the oldest of the four Caprioni children, coming before Jacob, Splendora, and Dominic. David Caprioni was a farmer. The family lived in Middle Township in Cape May County, near Dennis in a section known as Belleplain. “Thomas” Caprioni attended Middle Township High School and worked on his father’s farm before moving to the Camden area to take a job at the New York Shipbuilding Company shipyard as a welder.

Gaetano P. “Thomas” Caprioni was inducted into the United States Army on December 15, 1943, at Camden, New Jersey. He was assigned to the 134th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division. He was killed in action in France on September 29, 1944.

Pvt. Thomas Caprioni, 22, of Belleplain, was killed in France on September 29, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Caprioni, were informed on Friday.
He entered the Army in February and went overseas in July. Before entering the service he was employed at the New York Ship Yard in Camden and prior to that assisted his father on the latter’s farm. He formerly attended Middle Township High School.
His brother, Dominick, who served with the Army in Italy, received an honorable discharge recently as a result of combat with the enemy and now is at home in Belleplain.
Pvt. Caprioni is the second Belleplain man reported killed since the community’s honor roll was dedicated on October 5. The other was Pvt. Frank Repici, 31, who was killed in France on August 28.
