Technician Fifth Class Franklin F. Grundy Jr. was born in 1917 in Gloucester Township NJ to Franklin F. and Bertha Ullman Grundy. The Grundy family was living in Gloucester Township at the time of the 1920 census. By 1930 Franklin Grundy Jr. was living with his mother Bertha, stepfather Delbert Johnson, and five siblings on Sicklertown Road in the Erial section of Gloucester Township NJ. Delbert Johnson, a World War I veteran, worked as a sand cutter in an iron foundry. The family later moved to Almonesson Road in the Blackwood neighborhood of Gloucester Township. His father had also remarried and was living at 114 Linden Street in Camden NJ where he worked as a driver for an express company.

Inducted into the Army shortly after the draft was re-instituted, Franklin Grundy was killed in action on March 16, 1945, while serving with the 53rd Armored Infantry Battalion, 4th Armored Division, near Oberwessel, Germany. He was 27 at the time of his death.
After the war, Franklin Grundy was brought home. He was buried at Arlington Cemetery in Pennsauken NJ in 1949. He was survived by his mother, Mrs. Bertha Johnson, his stepfather Delbert Johnson, and his siblings.

Services for T/5 Franklin F. Johnson-Grundy will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Charles W. McCann funeral home, Church street, Blackwood. Burial will be in Arlington cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home tomorrow night. He was killed in action March 16, 1945, at Oberwessel, Germany. He was a member of the 53d Armored Infantry Battalion, 4th Armored Division. He was 27 at the time of his death. Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Johnson, of Almonessen road, Blenheim; four sisters, Misses Evelyn B. Grundy and Elizabeth, Loretta and Delberta Johnson, and a brother, John D. Johnson, all of Blenheim.
