Introduction
Frances S. Hall was born in Salem NJ in July of 1881, one of eight children born to Joseph B. and Elizabeth Sickler Hall. The family had moved to 506 Haddon Avenue in Camden by 1900, the elder Hall working as the superintendent at an oil cloth factory.
Joseph Hall was still managing the oil cloth works, and the family had moved to a new home at 1456 Bradley Avenue in the then new Parkside section of Camden, when the 1906 Camden City Directory was compiled.
In 1903 Frances Hall took a position as a teacher at the John W. Mickle School on Fillmore Street in Camden’s Eighth Ward. She remained in service until her retirement at the end of the 1942 school year, after 39 years service. Two of her sisters, Rebecca and Margaret also taught. Rebecca, better known as Reba Barnes Hall, was well known in Camden as a music teacher.
By 1924 Joseph Hall had passed away, but his widow and daughters Reba, Frances, and Margaret were still living at the Bradley Avenue address. Reba married a neighbor, John Griffee, on July 4, 1933.
Frances Hall was a member of Parkside Methodist Church. In her later years she lived with her sister, Mrs. Reba Griffee, in Haddonfield NJ.
Frances Hall died at home on November 4, 1947. She was survived by a brother, Harwood Hall, of Camden, and four sisters. Miss Hall was interred at Harleigh Cemetery.
