Private Elmer Higgens Hunt was born in Lambertville, NJ on November 23, 1889, to Israel and Flora Hunt. He was the middle child, coming after Raymond and before Mary. The Hunts lived at 118 George Street in Lambertville as late as 1900, before moving to 102 Linden Street in the North Camden section of Camden, NJ. The Hunts were members of the Presbyterian Church in North Camden.

Elmer Hunt was living at 819 Fern Street when he registered for the draft on June 5, 1917. He was then working as a driver for the Potter Express Company in Camden — a position he had held as early as the summer of 1910.

Elmer Hunt was drafted on May 27, 1918 and sent to Camp Dix, NJ, where he was assigned to the 23rd Company, Military Police.

Private Elmer Higgens Hunt died from Spanish influenza at Camp Dix, NJ on October 5, 1918. He was survived by his father, Israel Hunt, of 217 Elm Street, Camden.
