Edward J. Weeks
Private Edward J. Weeks was the third of four sons born to Frank and Ella Weeks. He was born in 1920 in New Jersey. In 1930 the family lived at 552 Chelton Avenue in Camden’s 8th Ward, near the Camden Brewery operated by F. A. Poth and Sons. Frank Weeks then worked as a truck driver. Besides Edward, there were older brothers Elwood and Frank Jr., and younger brother Alfred. The Weeks family later moved to 1622 Crosslynn Avenue in neighboring Woodlynne, NJ. Edward Weeks had a grammar school education and was single when he was drafted.
Edward Weeks was inducted into the United States Army on September 12, 1942, at Camden, NJ. In the November 16, 1943, edition of the Camden Courier-Post, it was reported that he had gone overseas with a parachute unit, and that his brother Frank was stationed at Nashville, TN.
Edward Weeks was a member of Company B, 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. He was killed in action on D-Day, June 6, 1944, after parachuting into France. Twenty-four at the time of his death, Private Weeks was survived by his parents and brothers.
In the summer of 1948, Edward Weeks was brought home to New Jersey. He was buried in New Camden Cemetery, Camden, NJ, on July 21, 1948.

Pvt. Edward J. Weeks Rites on Wednesday

Pvt. Edward J. Weeks, 24, who was killed while participating in the D-Day invasion, on June 6, 1944, will be buried Wednesday with full military honors.
Services for Private Weeks, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Weeks, 1622 Crosslyn avenue, Woodlynne, will be held at 2 p.m. at the Frank J. Leonard funeral home, 1451 Broadway. Members of Woodlynne post, American Legion, will serve as pallbearers. Burial will be in New Camden cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home tomorrow night.
A native of Camden, Private Weeks entered the Army in September, 1942, and in the spring of 1943 was sent overseas as a member of Co. B, 502d Paratroop Infantry unit. He was killed while parachuting to the Normandy beach.
Besides his parents, he is survived by three brothers, Frank, Woodlynne, and Ellwood and Alfred, both of Camden. — Camden Courier-Post, July 19, 1948
