Edward J. Gabriele
Private First Class Edward J. Gabriele was born on June 27, 1924, in Woodlynne, NJ, to Rocco and Jenny (née Palmero) Gabriele. Known to friends and family as “Eddie,” he was the youngest of ten children. The Gabriele family lived at 156 Cooper Street in Woodlynne, NJ. Eddie Gabriele was 18 years old when he was inducted into the United States Army on March 1, 1943.
After training with the 106th Infantry Division at Fort Jackson, SC, the Tennessee Maneuvers, and Camp Atterbury, IN, Private Gabriele was sent to the Fort Meade, MD, Replacement Depot in the late spring of 1944. He was subsequently sent overseas, initially to the 48th Replacement Depot, and on July 10, 1944, to Company K of the 358th Infantry Regiment, 90th Infantry Division, as an infantry replacement.
Private Edward J. Gabriele was killed in action on August 8, 1944. He was survived by his parents, brothers, and sisters.
