Technician Fifth Class Edward F. Still III was born August 6, 1916, to Edward F. and Margaret Buchanan Still. By 1920 the family was renting a home at 2000 Sepviva Street (the corner of Sepviva and Dauphin) in Philadelphia, where his father worked as a carpenter in a leather factory. By 1930 the Still family had purchased a home at 51 North Mohawk Avenue in Clementon, NJ, and the paternal grandfather had come to live with the family. Edward Still’s father was at this time a millwright at a baseball factory, probably the A.J. Reach & Company plant in the Kensington section of Philadelphia. Edward Still graduated from the Gibbs School in Clementon and attended Camden County Vocational School.

Edward Still was inducted into the United States Army in 1941 and trained as a radio operator. He was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment. This unit was sent overseas in December of 1943. Upon arrival in England, the 4th Cavalry was broken up, and the 2nd Squadron was redesignated the 24th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron (Mechanized).

The 24th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron arrived in France on June 16, 1944. Technician Fifth Class Edward F. Still was killed in action on July 5, 1944, when the command car in which he was riding struck a land mine near Beaumont-Hague-Maine, Normandy.

Edward F. Still was brought home after the war ended and was buried at Beverly National Cemetery on July 22, 1948. He was survived by his parents, his sister Mrs. Kathryne Schaffer, grandmother Mrs. Edward Still, and grandfather Charles Buchanan.
