Earl W. Jordan

Private First Class Earl W. Jordan, 21, of 536 South 6th Street in Camden, NJ, died of causes not related to combat while serving in the United States Army on December 14, 1944. He was serving with the 834th Engineer Aviation Battalion. This unit was engaged in repairing and constructing airfields for use by Army Air Force units. Landing on Omaha Beach on D-Day, the 834th built airstrips shortly after landing, enabling the delivery of supplies and the evacuation of wounded by air. The 834th Engineer Aviation Battalion received the Presidential Unit Citation for accomplishments in the course of the invasion. The 834th continued after the invasion through France and Belgium, repairing fields that had been evacuated by the enemy.

Private First Class Jordan’s body was returned to the United States after the war. He was buried at Beverly National Cemetery in Beverly, NJ, on November 4, 1948. He was survived by his brother Harry, and his mother, Mrs. Catherine Jordan.
