Introduction
Dr. Banks S. Baker was born in Fallston, North Carolina on February 2, 1906, the son of Michael J. Baker and Sarah Ann D. Shell. His father was a farmer. He graduated from Fallston High School in 1924 and from the University of North Carolina in 1928. He followed his brother Dr. Maurice E. Baker into medicine, graduating from Temple University School of Medicine in 1932. He interned at Cooper Hospital from 1932 to 1934 and established himself as a general practitioner.
Dr. Baker was affiliated with Cooper Hospital as an assistant obstetrician. He was a member of the Camden County Medical Society and the American Medical Association. He served as a Captain in the United States Army Air Force from 1942 to 1945.
His home was at 618 Benson Street, near Cooper Hospital. He was married to Margaret Witt, and they had two children: David and Mary Anne.
After retiring, Dr. Baker moved to Arizona. He was last of Pima, Arizona, where he died on October 10, 1997.
