Sergeant Donald Page Reamer was born on September 3, 1946 in Camden, New Jersey to Frederick William Reamer Sr. and his wife the former Ida Lizette Page. He had one brother, Frederick W. Reamer Jr. The Reamer family lived in Barrington, New Jersey, which was Mrs. Reamer’s birthplace.

Donald Reamer served in the US Army and attained the rank of Sergeant. His tour of duty in Vietnam began on December 20, 1967. He served with II Field Force, Vietnam (IIFFV), 173rd Airborne Brigade, 60th Artillery Regiment, 4th Battalion, A Battery.

Sgt. Reamer was awarded the Bronze Star as a result of his actions on August 21, 1968. His citation reads as follows:

Sergeant Donald P. Reamer distinguished himself by exceptional heroism in connection with military operations against an army hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam on August 21, 1968, while serving as the Squad Leader of Battery A, 4th Battalion, 60th Artillery. During the early morning hours, the fire base perimeter of Battery B, 6th Battalion, 84th Artillery was attacked concurrently with heavy mortar and rocket fire. Sergeant Reamer immediately mounted his track and directed accurate and effective fire on enemy positions materially reducing the effect of the initial attack. The enemy assaulted the perimeter defense with a heavy volume of mortar and automatic weapons fire, breaching the perimeter and directed small arms fire against the open turret of his duster. Disregarding his own safety. Sergeant Reamer continually exposed himself to enemy fire by supplying ammunition to the loading trays and directing fire until his gun received a direct hit by a B-40 rocket which placed his weapons out of action. Sergeant Reamer’s valorous actions and exemplary performance of duty wore in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.

Donald Page Reamer was killed in action on August 21, 1968 in Lam Dong province, South Vietnam. He was survived by his parents and his brother.

He is memorialized on Panel 47W, Line 21 of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
