Dominick Lombardo

Dominick Lombardo was born in Pennsylvania on July 18, 1904, the son of Italian immigrants. He married his wife Lucy around 1928, and by April of 1930 had moved to 424 Clinton Street in Camden NJ. He was then working as a concrete mixer.

Dominick Lombardo served as Deputy Sheriff in Camden County in the late 1940s. In those years he lived with wife Lucy at 445 Benson Street in Camden. He was a friend and associate of Camden City Commissioner Frank Abbott.

Dominick Lombardo later lived in Cherry Hill NJ. He passed away in June of 1978.

James Laurino, was elected president of the Fourth Ward Democratic Club of Camden last night at its headquarters, Broadway and Washington streets. Other officers chosen are John Stewart, vice president; Joseph Panichella, secretary; Dominick Lombardo, re-elected treasurer; Fred Ross, financial secretary; Thomas Shannon, sergeant-at-arms.

County Committeeman Ventorino Francesconi was named honorary president. David Visor was named to draw up by-laws. The charter is open for new members. The club will meet each Wednesday night.

Where is the Freeholders’ W.P.A. Probe?

To the Editor:

Sir— The public is anxiously awaiting the report of their elected representatives, the county board of freeholders, on their findings in their operation of W.P.A. in Camden. Personally, I am expecting a report that all is serene and that the taxpayers are receiving full value for their dollar and that the management is in exceptionally capable hands, for that is the usual outcome of all investigations when conducted by politicians.

However, the public will not be fooled this time for the papers have exposed the gross mismanagement and waste of public funds and the partiality that has been shown.

Clerks who really work for small salaries are compelled to accept a reduction in order that “Queen Marie” can receive an increase in the face of a supposedly economy move.

If the freeholders are unable to deal in this situation I am confident that some public-spirited citizen will come along who is not tied hand and foot by politics, and will be able to muster enough public sentiment to be able to correct a situation that is plainly deplorable.

I am confident that the national administration is planning this work for the people who need it, and did not take into consideration that these public funds would be permitted to fall into the hands of politicians who have proved themselves to have absolutely no regard for human need or rights.
