Technician Fifth Class Delbert K. Sandt was born on June 2, 1922. He had lived at 141 Bell Road in Mount Ephraim, New Jersey, with his wife, Gladys Bradford Sandt, and daughter Shirley before being inducted into the United States Army on January 1, 1943. Serving with the 747th Tank Battalion, he went overseas on April 10, 1943.

His unit landed in France on June 7, 1944 — the day after D-Day. The 747th Tank Battalion supported the 29th Infantry Division’s operations in Normandy. Technician Fifth Class Delbert Sandt was killed in action on June 16, 1944. Surviving him were his wife and daughter, then 2; two brothers, Walter Sandt, then serving in the Pacific, and Russell Sandt, of Camden; and his mother, Mrs. Agnes Sandt, of 2459 46th Street in Pennsauken, New Jersey. His death was reported in the August 19, 1944 edition of the Camden Courier-Post.

Delbert Sandt was brought home in the spring of 1948. He was buried at Locustwood Memorial Park in Delaware Township (present-day Cherry Hill), New Jersey, on May 8, 1948.
