Private David Ginsburg was born in New Jersey in 1916 to Harry and Rebecca Ginsburg. His father worked as a presser in a tailor shop in Gloucester City, New Jersey, where they lived. The 1920 Census shows the family living at 18 North King Street. In April of 1930 they had moved to 530 Ridgeway Street. They later moved to 321 Middlesex Street, and by the 1940s Harry Ginsburg had a tailor shop at 120 North King Street. David was the second of at least six children, following Edna and Max and preceding Jacob, Rosie, and Philip. David Ginsburg dropped out of high school after his sophomore year. When he was drafted at Trenton, New Jersey on March 18, 1941, he was working in a store.

Once inducted, Private Ginsburg volunteered and qualified for parachute duty. He went overseas as a member of the Regimental Headquarters Company, 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. David Ginsburg parachuted into France before dawn on June 6, 1944. He was killed in action that day. His body was recovered, and he rests at the Normandy American Cemetery at Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer, France.
