Biography

Private Dallas Lee Davis was born on March 28, 1924, to Henry J. and Ledoshia Davis. Henry had come to Camden from Virginia and was a janitor in one of Camden’s public schools. The family owned a home at 1031 Penn Street in North Camden in 1930, with eight children at home.

Dallas L. Davis was inducted into the United States Army on January 1, 1943. He was undergoing infantry training at Camp Goff in San Bernardino County, CA on September 2, 1943. He was killed when a rifle accidentally discharged.

The body of Private Dallas Davis was returned to New Jersey for burial. Funeral services were held on September 13, 1943 at the New Hope Church at North 11th and Linden Streets, Camden, NJ. His death was reported in the September 13, 1943 edition of the Camden Courier-Post.
