Introduction
Corporal Claude S. Parker was born in 1914 in Virginia to Sanford and Cora Parker. The family lived in Central Point, Caroline County, Virginia for many years. Claude Parker was still living in Virginia as late as the spring of 1940. At some point after the 1940 Census, Corporal Parker either moved to New Jersey or established ties to Camden County, New Jersey, which was his address of record when he died. The Army listed him as a Camden County resident in the Honor Roll of wartime deaths published in 1946.
Corporal Parker died while stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington, from injuries received in a car accident the previous day.

TACOMA, Nov. 29.—(AP)—Carrollia Gasca, 5-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francisco la Gasca of Tacoma, died last night about 24 hours after an automobile accident in which she, her mother and two soldiers were injured.
Harold Cabell, 19, uncle of the child, is being held for investigation. Mrs. le Gasca was treated for shock and bruises.
Corp. Claude S. Parker of Fort Lewis is in the post hospital as is Sergt. Louis D. Spencer.
Cabell is said to have been driving the car, which struck two parked automobiles before crashing into the one in which the soldiers were riding.

Crash Killing Child Takes Soldier’s Life
TACOMA, Nov. 30.—(AP)—Corp. Claude S. Parker, 29 years old, United States Army, died at the Fort Lewis Station hospital yesterday of injuries received in an automobile accident Saturday night which also took the life of 5-year-old Carol La Gasca, who died Sunday.
Both were passengers in a car driven by the child’s uncle, Harold Cabell, 19, brother of Robert J. Cabell, 16, who was killed August 4, when a car he was driving was involved in a crash.
Parker, stationed at Fort Lewis, was from Central Point, Va.

Tacoman Held For Two Traffic Deaths
TACOMA, Dec. 3.—Harold Cabell, 19-year-old Negro, yesterday was charged with negligent homicide in connection with the traffic deaths of two other Negroes following an accident Saturday night.
Cabell’s five-year-old niece, Carol la Gasca, died as a result of injuries suffered when Cabell’s automobile struck three parked cars, and Corp. Claude S. Parker died at the Fort Lewis Hospital a few days later. Both were passengers in the Cabell car. Cabell also was charged with drunken driving.
