Private First Class Clarence Carley Carson Jr. was born on August 24, 1927. Nicknamed “Sonny,” he graduated from Collingswood High School in June of 1945, and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on July 31st of that year. He underwent basic training at Parris Island until November 3, 1945. He was assigned to the Naval Ammunition Depot at Dover, NJ, reporting to that facility on November 6th, and received his promotion to Private First Class on December 20th.
Clarence C. Carson Jr. was killed in a motor accident in Whippany, NJ on February 8, 1946. He is buried at Harleigh Cemetery in Camden, NJ, next to his parents and grandparents. His name appears on the World War II War Memorial at Knight’s Park in Collingswood, NJ.
