Charles W. Loller
Metalsmith Third Class Charles W. Loller, 24, was born in Blackwood, NJ, son of Oliver Loller of Church Street, Blackwood. He attended Camden County Vocational School and enlisted in the Navy in 1942. He was discharged after the war and re-enlisted on December 18, 1947. He was assigned to the USS Zellers (DD-777).
On the night of February 19, 1949, Loller was killed when his motorcycle collided with a truck at Parksley, Virginia, as he was returning to his ship at Norfolk after a weekend leave.
He was buried at Beverly National Cemetery, Beverly, New Jersey. He was survived by his father; a brother, Sgt. O. Arthur Loller of Denver, Colorado; and his grandmother, Mrs. Catherine Loller of Blackwood.
Blackwood Sailor Killed in Crash

A Blackwood sailor was killed Sunday night when his motorcycle collided with a truck at Parksley, Va., according to a telegram received yesterday by his father.
The victim was ME/3c Charles W. Loller, 24, Church street, Blackwood, who had left his home in Blackwood at 5 p.m. and was returning to his ship, the USS Zellers at Norfolk, Va., after spending a weekend leave when the accident occurred.
The telegram to Loller’s father, Oliver, said the victim died of injuries after striking the rear of the semitrailer, but no further details of the accident were given.
Loller attended Camden County Vocational school and enlisted in the navy in 1942. He was discharged after the war and re-enlisted Dec. 18, 1947.
Surviving besides his father are a brother, Sgt. O. Arthur, Denver, and a grandmother, Mrs. Catherine Loller, of the Blackwood address.
Funeral arrangements are being made by Charles W. McCann, West Church street, Blackwood.

Services for ME3/c Charles W. Loller, 24, son of Oliver Loller, Church street, Blackwood, will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home of Charles W. McCann, West Church street, Blackwood, where friends may call tomorrow night. Burial will be in U. S. National cemetery, Beverly.
